OSA is excited to welcome eight visionary organizations to our global coalition in 2025. From harnessing the power of AI from space to fostering deep, personal connections to water in our daily lives, this diverse group of partners brings a powerful and multifaceted range of solutions to the fight against ocean sewage pollution. Their collective expertise in technology, community mobilization, circular design, and workforce development marks a significant leap forward in our shared mission. Together, we are strengthening every link in the chain—from prevention and monitoring to restoration and recycling—to create a cleaner, healthier ocean for all.
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome this incredible cohort of partners to the Alliance,” said Jasmine Fournier, OSA Executive Director. “The diversity of expertise—from cutting-edge technology and circular design to deep community engagement—is truly inspiring. This isn't just an expansion; it's a powerful acceleration of our collective ability to protect our oceans. I am deeply grateful to each of these organizations for joining this critical mission, and I cannot wait to see the waves of positive change we will create together."
Plastic-i
Focus: AI and satellite monitoring of marine pollution.
Plastic-i is a pioneering organization that harnesses the power of satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to protect our oceans. Their advanced AI-powered platform detects, maps, and monitors critical threats to marine ecosystems, including plastic pollution, sewage outflow, and oil spills. By transforming complex data into actionable maps, metrics, and reports, Plastic-i provides cleanup crews, policymakers, and conservation groups with the intelligence needed to direct interventions precisely and promote sustainable marine resource management. Their innovative work in remote sensing is a powerful asset in the shared mission to identify and mitigate pollution at its source.
“We are eager to join the Ocean Sewage Alliance to collaborate with like-minded organizations in tackling the critical issue of ocean pollution,” said James Doherty, CEO. “By contributing our expertise in remote sensing and AI, we aim to support OSA’s mission of addressing the impacts of sewage on marine environments while sharing knowledge and innovative solutions that drive sustainable ocean health.”
The Bay Foundation
Focus: Coastal restoration and community engagement in Southern California.
The Bay Foundation (TBF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and protecting the Santa Monica Bay and Southern California's coastal waters. For over two decades, TBF has been a cornerstone of local conservation, combining scientific expertise with a passion for collaboration to implement nature-based solutions. Their work includes engaging directly with recreational boaters on sewage pollution prevention, restoring critical habitats like kelp forests and wetlands, and creating green spaces within the urban watershed. As the implementer of the Santa Monica Bay National Estuary Program, TBF brings invaluable experience in turning comprehensive conservation plans into tangible, on-the-ground actions that benefit both the ecosystem and local communities.
Point of Shift
Focus: Circular sanitation design and off-grid toilet systems.
Point of Shift is reimagining the future of sanitation by championing a circular and beautiful approach to waste. They believe that our "waste" is a valuable resource and work to transform bathrooms from places of disposal into sites of celebration and reuse. Through the design and implementation of innovative, off-grid products like compost toilets, biodigesters, and greywater recycling systems, Point of Shift provides tangible solutions that prevent waste from entering water bodies in the first place. This partnership builds on a successful 2024 collaboration with the OSA's "Uniting Our Voice" working group, where their insights were instrumental in a key market research project aimed at empowering champions to tackle ocean sewage pollution.

eOceans
Focus: Crowdsourced data platform for real-time ocean monitoring.
eOceans empowers a global community to become the eyes and ears of the ocean through its innovative data science platform. They unite scientists, ocean users, and communities to collaboratively collect and analyze real-time data on pressing issues like sewage pollution. By combining a powerful mobile app with expert-led program design and real-time analytics, eOceans transforms scattered observations into credible, actionable insights. This approach, backed by scientific expertise that includes pioneering research on the impacts of sewage, enables faster, more collaborative, and data-driven decisions to protect marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
Think Shower Thoughts
Focus: Water wellness and mindfulness for consumer behavior change.
Think Shower Thoughts takes a uniquely personal approach to ocean conservation by fostering a deep, emotional connection to water through daily routines. As a water wellness and personal care company, they draw on the science of "Blue Mind"—the cognitive and emotional benefits of being near water—to design products and practices that cultivate water mindfulness. By helping individuals "feel their place in the water cycle," they transform everyday actions, like showering, into powerful opportunities to reduce one's impact and build a culture of stewardship that starts at home.

The Undertow
Focus: Mobilizing mass public engagement and funding for ocean action.
The Undertow is a movement dedicated to forging a new wave of ocean stewardship by directly connecting people and businesses to the sea. With a bold vision to enable 10 million new ocean connections and unlock $5 million in funding for ocean solutions by 2030, they focus on a clear, impact-driven pathway: creating connections, unlocking inspiration, deepening knowledge, and committing to measurable action. Their work empowers a broader community to understand their vital link to the ocean and translate that awareness into tangible support for its health.
Water Rising Institute
Focus: Water workforce development and leadership training.
WaterRising Institute is tackling the ocean sewage crisis at its foundation by building a resilient, skilled, and diverse workforce for the water and wastewater sector. Their systems-based approach empowers local leaders and aligns water infrastructure with long-term community and environmental priorities. Through their Global Framework for Water Workforce Leadership & Sustainability, they are developing the recruitment strategies and training programs—with a special focus on empowering women—necessary to maintain and operate the treatment systems that prevent raw sewage from ever reaching our lakes, rivers, and oceans.
Sanitation Ambassadors
Focus: Circular sanitation franchises and systems.
Sanitation Ambassadors confronts the global sanitation crisis with a powerful, on-the-ground solution: a scalable franchise model that builds a circular economy while advancing the human right to clean water and sanitation. Based in South Africa, their work challenges the notion that this is only a "developing world" problem, highlighting how conventional flush toilets everywhere waste drinking water and pollute oceans with inadequately treated waste. They build smarter, water-efficient systems that keep waste out of water cycles, instead transforming it into valuable resources to protect both human dignity and the health of our seas.

"On behalf of the Steering Committee, I am delighted to welcome our new partners,” said Dr. Helen Fox, Chair. “Seeing leaders in fields from satellite monitoring to social franchising unite under the OSA banner is a testament to the complex, multi-faceted nature of the ocean sewage challenge. This strategic expansion fills critical gaps in our alliance. It brings us closer to a future where coral reefs and coastal ecosystems worldwide are freed from the threat of sewage pollution. Their collective commitment is a powerful step forward."
The addition of these eight partners—Plastic-i, The Bay Foundation, Point of Shift, eOceans, Think Shower Thoughts, The Undertow, WaterRising Institute, and Sanitation Ambassadors—signals an exciting new chapter for the Ocean Sewage Alliance. Their unique strengths amplify our collective ability to tackle this complex challenge from every angle. Their innovation and unwavering commitment inspire us, and we are confident that this growing collaboration will accelerate our progress toward a world free of sewage pollution in our ocean.
